The dispute stemmed from ongoing tensions between Kortne and the downstairs residents, reportedly related to previous noise complaints and conflicts.
At approximately 3:12 a.m., police were called to the scene for a disturbance. Officers arrived, spoke briefly with those involved, and managed to calm the situation. They left shortly afterward. About forty minutes later, a second call was made regarding continued noise. When police returned, the apartment appeared quiet, and no one answered the door, so officers left without making contact.
According to Cody, he went to sleep inside Kortne’s apartment. When he woke up around 7:30 a.m., she was gone. Her car remained parked outside. Inside the apartment, everything appeared normal — her purse, phone, keys, money, and cigarettes were untouched.
